Membership
Categories of Membership
The OECS Bar Association has several categories of membership. The categories are as follows:
Constituent Membership
Honourary Membership
On the recommendation of the Executive Committee as hereinafter defined, honourary members may be elected at a meeting of the Bar Council where there is a two-thirds majority of members present and voting. Honourary members may be elected for life or such period as the Bar Council may deem fit and shall be shall be entitled to all the privileges of membership. Honourary members shall have the right to participate in all meetings of the OECS Bar, including Executive, Council, and General Meetings, but without the right to vote at any meeting.
Individual Membership
Any legal practitioner admitted to practice in any of the eligible countries, and who is a member of the Bar Association of any of these territories, shall be entitled on payment of the appropriate fee to be admitted to individual membership.
Individual Members shall pay an entrance fee which shall be the equivalent of EC$100.00 and an annual subscription equivalent to EC$250.00.
An individual member shall be entitled to all the privileges of membership except that he or she shall not be entitled to vote on resolutions for the amendment of the Constitution and, if not an accredited representative of a constituent member, shall not be eligible for election as an officer of the OECS Bar Association without the written recommendation of the Bar Association of which he or she is a member.
Judicial Membership
Any member of the Bench appointed in any country shall be entitled on payment of any applicable fee to be admitted to judicial membership. Judicial Member shall not be eligible for election as an officer of the OECS Bar Association.
Public Bar Membership
Any member of the public bar in any eligible country shall be entitled on payment of any applicable fee to be admitted to public bar membership. Public Bar Membership shall not be entitled to vote on resolutions for the amendment of the Constitution and shall not be eligible for election as an officer of the OECS Bar Association
Associate Membership
Any member of the legal profession in any country that is not an eligible country may be admitted to associate membership.
Associate Members shall pay an entrance fee which shall be the equivalent of EC$100.00 and an annual subscription equivalent to EC$250.00.
Any individual who has not been admitted to practice law in any jurisdiction but who has an interest in the work of the OECS Bar Association may be admitted to associate membership. Such member shall not be entitled to vote on resolutions for the amendment of the Constitution and shall not be eligible for election as an officer of the OECS Bar Association.
Student Membership
Any law student in any eligible country may be admitted to student membership of the OECS Bar Association. Such member shall not be entitled to vote on resolutions for the amendment of the Constitution and shall not be eligible for election as an officer of the OECS Bar Association.
Student Members shall pay an entrance fee and an annual subscription equivalent to ten (10%) of that for an individual member.
